Meet Doi Pho – The Spirited Mountain Child

Doi Pho, meaning “Mountain,” is the youngest elephant at our sanctuary, just 6 years old. Born in the mountains where she was destined to work for a logging camp, we rescued her in 2019 just before she was supposed to begin a life of hard labor. Her early years were spent in the beautiful hills, and now she brings that natural joy and energy into her new home.

With an engaging personality that captivates everyone’s attention, Doi Pho is known for her happy, playful demeanor. She’s often seen moving about, exploring her surroundings and forming a particularly close bond with Chompoo, another beloved elephant at the sanctuary. Chompoo has taken on the role of an adoptive mother, providing Doi Pho with the nurturing support she needs as she grows.

Their friendship exemplifies the beauty of companionship and trust, as they play together and support one another in their adventures. Doi Pho thrives on the companionship of her herd and is especially clingy with Chompoo, often seeking her out for comfort and fun. Her playful nature can sometimes turn sulky if she feels left out, but that just adds to her charm! Whether she’s racing around with Chompoo or finding new ways to engage the other elephants, Doi Pho brings a delightful energy that uplifts everyone around her.
