Meet Thong Luan – The Golden Heart

Thong Luan, meaning “Full of Gold,” is our newest resident at the sanctuary, having just been rescued in September 2024. At 43 years old, she comes to us with a lifetime of experiences from a riding camp where her days were spent carrying heavy buckets and transporting people 20-30 times a day. Her previous life was filled with hard work, and now she is finally beginning her journey towards freedom and healing.
The founder of our sanctuary, Busabong Pui, recognized the urgent need for Thong Luan’s rescue. Upon seeing her condition, she acted immediately and without hesitation, ensuring Thong Luan could find a safer, more compassionate environment.

As a newcomer, Thong Luan possesses a calm and quiet personality. She tends to be slow when eating and walking, taking her time to adjust to her new surroundings. Currently, she is working to integrate into the group, approaching her fellow elephants with gentleness and care, and displaying a nurturing side.
One of Thong Luan’s endearing traits is her love for exploration she eagerly investigates her surroundings, soaking in the sights and sounds of her new home. Her bond with the mahouts is also evident; she often seeks their company, showcasing her clingy yet affectionate nature.

Seemingly content, Thong Luan frequently moves her ears and tail, a joyful indication of her happiness at the sanctuary.
